Welcome!

Hello! Here’s to a fabulous school year! Welcome to First Grade and to room 114.  Our names are Emily Hooker and Amie Elmore; we will be your child’s teachers.  We know that together we will all have an extremely successful year.
This will be Mrs. Hooker's tenth year teaching at Holton Elementary. She has taught 3rd grade, kindergarten and this will be her fourth year teaching 1st grade.  Her latest challenge, however, is the awe-inspiring job of being a mother! Mrs. Hooker had her first child last summer and is so pleased that Richmond Public Schools offers the job-sharing program to support new families.  Mrs. Hooker will be teaching Monday - Wednesday and Mrs. Elmore teaches Thursday and Friday. This system has been implemented with great success in other classes in our school and we had a fantastic first year of job-sharing last year.  We know that this year will be even better!

This year marks the fourth year that Mrs. Elmore has been a part of the Linwood Holton team.  She has been a Title I tutor and will continue this role Monday through Wednesdays. One of the perks of this is being able to check in daily with Mrs. Hooker and our first graders!  When Mrs. Elmore is not at school, you will likely find her with her three kids.  They are in 6th, 3rd and 2nd grade!  Shew, she wishes they would slow down this whole "growing up" thing!

Mrs.  Hooker and Mrs. Elmore work hard throughout the year to be available to you and your family to address any questions or concerns that you may have.  Our hope is that you will always feel informed of what is going on in our classroom.  We will be sending home a newsletter each Monday in your child's folder with that week’s reminders and announcements.   Please make sure to read this carefully each week.

The best way to reach us is through e-mail.  We try to check it throughout the day during breaks and can usually get back to you before the day is out.  Of course, you can also always reach us by phone at the school or by sending a note in your child’s folder.   Please don’t ever hesitate to contact us.  Together, we’re going to have an outstanding year!
