Our Schedule Through May 2014

March 15     Mammals: Humans are mammals, but who else fits this class of vertebrates?  What mammals are having litters at this time? And where are the mammals of Bryan Park?
March 15     Astronomy: The Richmond Astronomy Society will present a program about the Moon and Jupiter at 7:30 PM at the south end of the soccer fields in Joseph Bryan Park. Please park in the Soccer Parking Lot and bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit. In case of inclement weather, check the RAS website (http://richastro.org ) for cancellation notice after 12 pm.
April 12      Amphibians: Frogs are amphibians but who else fits into this class? How do they find mates and what is special about tadpoles? Let’s explore Bryan Park to find out!
April 19       Birds: Oh boy! Animals with bright feathers in spring time! Who will we find in Joseph Bryan Park? Are they staying in Bryan Park or migrating north?
May 10        Family Fishing: Virginia Fishing Adventures will be teaching a family fishing class (http://virginiaoutside.com). Parents and children will learn some basic fishing techniques and be introduced to the fishing opportunities at Bryan Park. All equipment provided. No experience necessary. Parents wishing to fish must have a valid fishing license. Fishing licenses may be purchased online at http://www.dgif.virginia.gov.
May 17       Reptiles: Let’s look for basking turtles on Bryan Park’s ponds today.  A shed snake skin will lead us to discuss turtles, snakes and lizards and their common similarities. http://www.dgif.virginia.gov.

All programs are from 10:30 till noon at the Nature Center unless otherwise stated.
Parking at Shelter 1 is recommended. Follow the signs for a short 10 minute walk to the Nature Center.  If handicap access is needed, please let us know so that we can make arrangements with you.

Classes are free, but participants are welcome to leave a small donation, which will go to the Nature Center Fund.
